Lookingglass Theatre Company, the Chicago company noted for its productions using ensemble members mixed with guest artists, has produced a new musical about the capsizing of the pleasure boat the S.S. Eastland.Eastland: An Original Musical, written by award-winning Artistic Director Andrew White, weaves a tapestry of working class stories and colorful characters, giving voice to the victims and heroes of that fateful day. Inspired by early American folk music, Eastland joins haunting lyrics to unforgettable melodies and soaring harmonies by Artistic Associate Andrew Pluess and Ben Sussman. Amanda Dehnert will direct the production, which begins June 6, 2012. Eastland: An Original Musical is the recipient of the Edgerton Foundation New American Play Award.
The Lookingglass Theatre is located on North Michigan Avenue just one-block from the John Hancock Center. Combine the show with a lunch or dinner at one of the many fine restaurants nearby for a memorable day in downtown Chicago.
