Loretta G. Burns

...had a premonition that she shouldn't go...

Loretta Burns was born September 19th, 1892. She was the 11th of 12 children born to Michael Patrick Burns and Hannah McGinnis, a first generation American of Irish descent. Loretta was employed at the Western Electric Company and had purchased a ticket for the picnic and boat ride. While on her way to catch the street car to take her to the docks, she had a feeling or premonition that she shouldn't go. She was surprised with the feeling, since she had a ticket and very much looked forward to going. However, she turned around and went home. When word of the tragedy reached her, she was saddened and shocked that she had lost so many good friends and co workers, and she also couldn't understand what had prompted her to turn around and return home.

In 1918, Loretta married Robert A.Hallett. They had three daughters: Margaret Florence (Levitt), Lillian Louise (Schira), and Loretta Ann (Dugan), and eight grandchildren.
